Got 2x4GB of RAM and just installed a 1 x8GB stick but only 8GB is registed instead of the whole 16GB i should have

The 2x4GB RAM i have is G.Skill - Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3-1600MHz
The 1x8GB RAM i have is Corsair XMS3 8GB DDR3-1600MHz

i have the 2x4GB is the 1st and 3rd RAM slots on my mobo and the 1x8GB in the 2nd slot

Mobo is MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard

Just took it out and it was extremely hot, placed it back into The 4th slot instead of the 2nd slot after letting it cool down and now the mobo registers it

I just checked my BIOS settings and it says that it hasn't recognised the 1x8GB RAM in the slot that i have it in, anyway to make the mobo actually recognise it?
