Headphones resetting BIOS? FPS drops with Ryzen 5 when plugging in USB headset

First here are my specs:

ASUS GTX 1060 6GB
Ryzen 5 1500X 3.5Ghz
8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000Mhz
Gigabyte AB350 Gaming
Corsair CX 600W
Windows 10 64-bit

I have encountered a bizarre hardware problem since upgrading my PC to Ryzen. It seems that whenever I am playing a game and plug in my wired Corsair Void USB headset, my fps immediately plummets to often a third of what it was prior. I first noticed this playing GTAV, where I would ordinarily reach a solid 60fps, as soon as I plugged in my headphones, I'd reach an average of 22fps.

Turns out, if I restart my PC and open BIOS after this happened I get the message 'Your BIOS has been reset.' I am able to fix this by setting my XMP settings to profile 1, which increases my RAM frequency from 2133Mhz to 2900+ As we know Ryzen CPU's are heavily dependent on RAM frequency so this increase resolves my problem until I plug in my headphones again. What is interesting to note however, is that even though activating the XMP solves my problem, applications like CPU-Z still tell me my RAM is running at 2133Mhz.

This happens in multiple games including Rust, DayZ and Dota 2, although it only happens some of the time in dota, if I plug my headphones in prior to launching dota it will play at maximum fps maybe 70% of the time.

I have tried the headphones in multiple USB slots including 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 and updated their drivers, nothing has changed. My speakers which are plugged into the standard 3.5mm audio jack do not seem to affect performance.

Another interesting aside is that if this performance issue starts, when I reset my computer my keyboard and mouse will work until I press del to enter BIOS, then they both become disabled. To fix this I have to plug them into USB 2.0, but they have always worked in 3.1 slots before. In addition my PC will often cycle 3-5 times before the BIOS screen will display, constantly revving its fans in a disconcerting manner.

The motherboard, RAM and CPU were all bought brand new two weeks ago.

Has anyone ever encountered anything like this before? I thought it might be a power draw issue but my PSU is less than two years old and should be more than capable, plus has no coil whine to indicate an issue.

Welcome to Gigabyte AM4 Ryzen land!

First things first; if this thing happens with all USB ports, the problem may be with your headphones or if there are other USB devices that have their own power ( like printers ) they might be leaking current. Somehow it might short circuit or "leak current". You can easily check this with a screwdriver that has electricity checking capabilities by contacting your case and USB ports.

I have experienced this on a client who complained he was getting electricity shocks from his laptop. We sent him another laptop, then he reported the same shocks again. I have experienced this on a client who complained he was getting electricity shocks from his laptop. We sent him another laptop, then he reported the same shocks again. Then we told him to check his power line - which he responded that it was grounded. then it turned out tha this HP printer was connected to a ungrounded power line and was leaking current over the USB cable to the laptop.

Also, check if your power line is grounded or not. Don't count on them to be grounded even if you did not experience problems with them in the past. I had a powerline that worked flawlessly for three years, then one of my desktops started resetting itself, then my wife complained she getting electricity shocks from her laptops USB port etc, and then I checked that the desktop was flowing with current every where. I was about to change my PSU but first tried it on another powerline and it did not have any current. The technician visiting my house opened the power line and to my surprise even though the connector was of grounded type and the cable was of grounded type, that cable was actually an extension cable connected to another cable - that was not grounded. So, he connected the ground cable and neutral cables together, and no more electricity shocks and no more resetting.

I have Aorus X370 Gaming 5 motherboard and I am also experiencing disabled keyboard/mouse on entering BIOS; I can not find another solution then reset the PC. And then the boot loop problems. I experience them at least one every single day. I was doing my best trying to wanr people about Gigabyte AM4 motherboards, but recently someone I have been exchanging private messages with went out and purched the same motherboard I was warning him against - and I have stopped warning people after that.

Please let me know after you check if there is a leakage or not.
