The power and eject buttons (both touch-sensitive) recently stopped working on my Xbox One. Nothing I tried got them to work. I ended up having to use a paperclip to get the DVD out of the Xbox one since it would not eject.
However I found a fix that I thought I would post here in case anyone else had the same issue.
The fix was to physically unplug the power cord from the console and or unplug it from the electrical outlet for at least 30 seconds.
I did this and yay the buttons started working again. I am not sure why this works but it did.
I hope this helps anybody who has this same problem with their Xbox One.

Basically when you unplugged (powered off) the Xbox you forced a reboot. And the reboot cleared some software bug in the Xbox's memory that disabled the power and eject buttons.

Electronic devices have some memory that must be continually powered in order for the device to maintain its configuration settings.

There are several general ways of doing "reboots" via "power off".

A specific reset button.

Power off by using the device on/off switch (Note: the power cord may still be providing some small amount of power - may be indicated by a lit LED.)

Power off by unplugging completely. And waiting as you did. Allows power stored in capacitors to disapate.

Power off by removing a small battery as on a computer's motherboard.

Sometimes the power off process can include pressing and holding certain buttons for some period of seconds to completely clear the memory.

More extreme, relatively speaking, is a requirement to open the case and electrically connect (short out) a couple of pins to clear the memory. Or remove, wait, and reinsert a small battery.

For the most part the idea is to be able to fix some problem such as you had while also preventing or limiting the opportunities for accidental reboots and loss of configuation settings.

(It is absolutely amazing how kids can manage to discover just what buttons can do just those sort of things...)

The place where I found the information said that possibly a small power surge could have deactivated those touch-sensitive buttons. I am not sure if that's how my Xbox buttons stopped functioning.
But whatever the cause I hope that this helps other people with this problem. I was thinking I was going to have to send it out to get repaired.
