Does this sound like a bad PSU, Motherboard, or something else?

My PC has had a problem of turning off at a random time, usually within minutes of originally being turned on, and once it shuts down and comes back on I can use it for as long as I'd like. All hardware tests come back that show things such as the GPU, CPU, RAM, and Hard Drives are OK. I'm thinking it's either a bad PSU or Mobo. It's worth noting I put a new GPU and some additional RAM in a few days before the problems started, but I removed the additional RAM I put in and the problem still occurs, and tests show that my GPU is OK. What sounds like the problem?

i7 4790k CPU
EVGA GTX 1070
Corsair 750w PSU
MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Mobo

Originally had 8GB of Gskills Ripjaw RAM, but added 8 more GB

True it has nothing to do with GPU, but it probably has everything to do with board. As OP's stated, his GPU is fine.

Basically 8pins used for a very powerful CPU or intense overclocking. Case in point, my own i7 920 were not even using all 8pins to run on stock. My current 3570K doesn't either. For I fear that the board would get damaged due to the extra current.

Please refer to this old thread, in which blazorthon explained nicely:

For OP's board, its possible to save it still. By trying using only 4pins CPU power and see what happens.

Just a hunch, but:

Check your PSU power cable that goes there(red circle). Since you only used 1 GPU, you'd only need 4 pin connected. 8 are for multi-GPU setups.

I'm confused as to what you mean by this. Can you elaborate a bit more?
