Is my pcie slot 1 working? How to test

My GTX-1050ti does not work in slot 1 and does not appear in Device Manager. But, does work in slot 2 at x8. Is there a way to test slot 1 before I send the mobo back? There is power because the fan turns.

Sorry about that. This is an all new build with an ASUS Z170-AR mobo. I understand that the performance difference between x8 and x16 is minimal. But, I would like to know if it's the mobo or the 1050ti. I've seen other posts reporting the same problem with this card.
Yesterday, I called ASUS Support and they suggested that I reset the CMOS by removing the battery. That did not help.
