Not strictly true. The LGA771 Xeons can be modded to work in most LGA775 boards, and the 775 Xeons (X3200/3300) will work in any board that supports the Coe 2 Quad they're based off of. The LGA115x xeons (Xeon X3400/Xeon E3) work in almost all boards that support the equivalent i5/i7, and the HEDT versions (LGA1366/2011) are the same, they'll work in most X58/X79/X99 boards. It's only when you start getting into the really ridiculous configurations that they lose support. There are specific motherboards that support xeon processors but the rest dont sadly, so double and triple check the specs of your motherboard or a new one that supports this type "xeon" this link can clarify the differences between the to and preferred types of gaming CPU's Not]https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Intel-CPUs-Xeon-E5-vs-Core-i7-634/
