DAS vs NAS

In the near future, I want to buy a storage device to backup my entire OS encase something goes wrong. I've been looking around online about NAS, and how they have an entirely different OS to backup data from multiple computers. I've also looked at DAS, which is basically one or more external hard drives or SSDs directly hooked up to a computer. I want to store all of my data, including an entire copy of my OS however which storage solution should I get? I'm just an average home user looking to backup data, from multiple computers around my house with ease and reliability. I would also like to know the pros and cons of each choice.

If I do get NAS or DAS, what do I need to get started and what system do you recommend? Thanks.

Thanks for the link. However what NAS brand would you recommend? Which ones should I stay away from?

I have a Qnap TS-453a
It works.

Synology is also good.

I will use a USB and or External 1tb hard drive to further backup the NAS, as a secondary fail safe.
