Hi, I've hit a wall in my build and hoping someone can offer a solution. My build is for music production, and the audio interface I want to use requires Thunderbot 3. I want to use my 2U server rack which fits a micro ATX board, but I can't find any micro ATX boards with built in Intel Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3 controller. I thought I could use the Gigabyte GA-Z270MX-Gaming 5 mobo which has the Thunderbolt header needed to connect to a Thunderbolt 3 PCIe3 card, but then I realized that both Asus and Gigabtye Thunderbolt 3 cards are not low profile and are are too tall to fit in my 2U server rack.

So i'm still searching to see if I can find either a micro ATX motherboard with built in Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3 controller, or a low profile Thunderbolt 3 PCIe card that will fit a 2U server rack.

Hoping to find a solution compatible with i7-7700k processor, LGA1151 socket, Z270 chip set, M.2 Sata drive, and DDR4 up to 64GB.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I bought the Asus card to test it out but didn't realize it was too tall until i tried to plug in it. I figured there must be a low profile card out there for server racks, but haven't found any. Plus the Asus and Gigabyte cards require a cable on the top of the card to connect to the motherboard thunderbolt header, so if there was a low profile card it may still not even fit a 2U rack. I'm sure the technology will evolve and new products will come out. In the meantime, I think my best option might be a ASRock Z270 ITX board which has the built in Alpine...
