Hello,

Whenever a boss fight happens, so does a long freeze until the fight is over. Anyone have a recommended fix for this?

CPU:
Intel Core i5 6600K 3.50 GHz Quad Core Skylake Desktop Processor, Socket LGA 1151, 6MB Cache

RAM: 8GB G-Skill RAM

GPU: EVGA Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 1050

Hard Drive:
WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD10EZEX

I plan to get an SSD (which apparently will only help with loading screen times), as well as another 8GB RAM Stick.

Yes, my monitor is connected to my GPU. Yes, I have tried the lowest of low optimal settings, yet is still does the same thing. The only way to get it to a less intense freeze, is if I turn off other characters (ctrl + F) AND the UI (ctrl + X). But I need the UI to actually fight. And it still stutters.

What worries me is that people in the game say they have a lower GPU or an inferior CPU yet they are able to run completely fine. And not only that, this is a newly built PC as of the beginning of April.

Initially this ruins my gaming experience, as I am unable to participate in raid battles to the fullest of extent, or even regular boss battles for that matter.

I have always found this website helpful for my PC troubles, and I am hoping that I can get some input on how to go about fixing this issue. And I hope that even though some may not be famliar with the game, may somehow help me in finding a solution. Thank you.

An example of this happening is in a video linked below (to get closer to the actual freeze, start at 2:15):

P.S. I am a beginner when it comes to computers. My step-dad actually built my PC for me, and my friends helped me pick the parts. So please, when explaining it would be safe to assume that I do not know much about computers, or where to find certain information regarding my displays and such.

Blade and Soul is an incredibly CPU-hungry game. More specifically, it's an incredibly single-core-performance heavy game. From personal testing, I've found that this game's overall performance is tied to two things: CPU clock speed, and RAM speed. Since it's built on an older engine and unable to take advantage of newer, more efficient instruction sets, all you can really do to improve performance is to make those two things run faster. Oh, and having an SSD actually makes a huge difference in this game, for stutter and load times. And having 16GB of RAM. I tried running this game on 8GB, and within 3 hours, had completely run out of RAM, multiple times. Now that I have 16GB of RAM, this game will very easily eat up to 12GB by itself...
very odd the system requirements for blade and soul are not demanding at all
recommended are :

Blade and Soul Secrets of the Stratus Recommended Requirements
CPU: Intel Quad Core / AMD Phenom II X4
RAM: 4 GB
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
Video Card: nVidia Geforce 8800GT / AMD Radeon HD4850

I watched your lock up during the fight, it looked like game lag to me, what internet connection do you have with your system ?
also have you tried running HWINFO in the background to register temperature of video card when playing the game ?

I tried running this game on 8GB, and within 3 hours, had completely run out of RAM, multiple times. Now that I have 16GB of RAM, this game will very easily eat up to 12GB by itself no problem, sometimes going up to 14GB.

My PC build is in my sig, and it runs this game really well, pinned at 80 fps (I limit it to 80 because the in game fps limiter actually kills a lot of fps and there's no way to turn it off, set it to either 60 or 80), and if I don't ctrl f, on completely maxed out settings, I get like 40-45 fps in DKV and 30-40 fps in MSP.

That said, there may be something else is at hand. To start, download Realtemp, leave it open during game, and report back with your CPU temperature maximums. Defrag your hard drive (optimize drives through windows), run Windows' Memory Diagnostic Tool, remember to enable the FPS and ping displays in game, and keep them somewhere easily visible, shift + f1 to rearrange the UI. Keep task manager open while gaming to see how much RAM and CPU gets used. If you ever go over 7GB~ish used, you're running out of RAM. From the video you linked, it really, really looks like what happened when I ran out of RAM playing this game, where it slowly grinds to a halt as it stops writing data to RAM (which is super fast), and starts doing all of its work directly onto your hard drive, which is snail slow.

Another thing to do in game is to disable the context display for joint attacks. In the options > Game > Camera > Mouseover Options, uncheck "Display Contextual Action Prompts". Should give you back a whack ton of FPS when someone else around you is attempting to CC something.

TL;DR There's no reason an i5 6600k + GTX1050 combo can't run BnS. Get that second RAM stick, then get yourself an SSD. Or both at the same time.

Wow, that's a freeze and a half. Ouch. So basically you were stuck there all the way until the boss died?

I agree with The Paladin; monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures with a monitoring program (he mentioned HWINFO; I prefer CPUID HWMonitor) and report 'em here.

...Paladin, one of these days, I will squish that bug, just you watch!
