the last computer i built and overclocked was 20 years ago.. still learning.
i have my cpu overclocked to 4.4ghz, it's stable and i've been using it for a few weeks.
before i settled on 44 i had it at 45, but prime 95 workers kept quitting and i didn't want to up the voltage.
now when i increase it to 45 in the bios, cpuid, and intel xtu are reporting the max as 44 and not 45. i'm just curious as to why it's not hitting 4.5ghz.
I've noticed intel xtu is showing my speed as 4.47 something, but it's still maxing out at 4.4 during stress tests and benchmarks.

i5 6600k (x44, core voltage 1.3 max / adaptive voltage)

First for a cpu like that dont use xtu, go to bios.
Second. That motherboard is really good ( return to first point)
I want to say that you didnt win the silicon lottery most of 6600k can run at 4.4ghz at 1.25-1-23. I got a freaking 6600k that runs at x44 at stock voltage! i love it probably i can overclock it beyond the 5ghz!. But well missing that. Dont overclock it more if you want a long lifespan :D. I recommend to you to use offset voltage

Hey. thanks for the reply. i am not using xtu to overclock. i'm using it for the benchmark, and info it displays. i've also been using cpuid and hwmonitor. my first attempt to overclock the cpu was at 4.5ghz, 1.3 manual voltage. prime 95 ran for 40 minutes before a worker stopped. (tried a few times. one worker always quit). rather than increase the voltage (i am content with 4.4ghz) i just dropped it to 4.4ghz. it's running stable with a max heat of 73c (after an hour of prime 95).
my question is, when i go back to the bios and put it up to 45ghz, it maxes out at 4.4ghz according to hwmonitor and cpuid.
at some point i might want to push it more, so i'm curious why i can't seem to put it back to 4.5ghz.
i have adaptive voltage on now, and it's sits around 700 something voltage at idle, and maxes out at 1.312 under load with LLC 5.

I'll work on the voltage offset this weekend. Thank you very much for the advice.
