Steam audio problems!

Hello, my mic does not work in Steam. All the sliders are maxed out but still has VERY LOW mic input, I have to hit on mic in order to show some audio input. It work a bit better if i put +20db gain. But in other app's my mic works fine like TS, dicord and recording softwares. Windows has good mic input like it should be.

I have condenser mic that goes trough Behringer xenyx 802 mixer and then goes in pc'c mic input in rear.

That's strange. I would ask if the mic itself has a volume control of any kind but you said it works fine in most other programs...hmm. Can you try the mic without the mixer or is it the wrong size plug for the computer?

The mic does not have any control on it and I can not connect it directly to pc because it has XLR plug. But in a week or two I am planing to get USB audio interface and I hope it will solve the problem.

Well, keep us posted. If that doesn't fix it, I'd advise that you contact VALVe support about this, as it's definitely something to do with how Steam is handling the input from the mixer.

Actually, here's a question. How many programs are having this issue? Is it just Steam itself or are any of the games also having trouble?

Every game that I have in steam mic does not work. Also I have the same problem whit Skype. In past I did not had such problems in Steam or Skype. But rest of programms that requires mic works perfectly.

Given that no game launched through Steam is picking up your mic correctly, you should probably contact VALVe right now rather than wait for the USB audio interface. If it worked in the past, one of their updates must have broken something recently.

I wrote to VALVe support and they said that they cannot ensore every mic option and gave me a link https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1206-WUOH-3314, but I have done everythings in that article many times. Eaven after I said that the Microphone boost option is greyed out (cannot enable) they just said - ''We have provided all the information we have regarding this issue. I'm sorry we can't be of more help.''

Something just hit me like a ton of bricks (because it just happened to me ><). Try this:

Right-click on the volume icon on your taskbar, and select "Recording devices." Open up the properties of the mic, and go to the Advanced tab. Make sure that "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" is unchecked. Hit OK and try it again.
