I am designing a NAS system (Synology DS1815+) for an office of about 10 computers (8 x 10TB drives with RAID-6), but have been concerned about the reliability of RAID based on what I have read online. I was wondering if I could setup a backup account through CrashPlan. If I did this, would I be able to set it up directly on the NAS? Alternatively, if I purchased a small dedicated computer that was connected via USB, would the RAID appear as a drive on this computer so I could back it up to CrashPlan through the computer? I haven't purchased anything yet and am open to suggestions on how to best store and secure our data.

Ok as far as RAID goes, using RAID 5/6 with greater than 4TB dives are not recommended unless you get some good drives but you can use them.

As far as the online backup I have read ways of getting crashplan on the synology (I have a client with both) but I never really got into it.

But you should either be able to 1) use the USB or 2) Map all the space to this dedicated PC and then back them up with crashplan that you can do.
