Hey guys. So I've decided that since my Dell OptiPlex 780 sucks horribly at playing any modern games, I'm going to build my own budget gaming desktop and since I'm on a budget, i'd like to stay under $400. So far, this is what I've come up with.

Motherboard: Asrock H170m-itx/ac

Cpu: Intel Core i5-6500

Gpu: PowerColor Radeon r9 380 4gb or a cheap alternative because I can't find these anywhere

Ram: 2x4gb G.skill Ripjaws

Ssd: Samsung 850 Evo

Hdd: I haven't decided if I want a hdd yet

I'd Like some constructive criticism and help on tis build please

Solution
You want to make sure it's DDR4 RAM. If not, it's not going to work. You can continue to use your old 1TB. You want to use at least 8GB.

I suggest you get a 120gb ssd and a 1tb hard drive because newer games are taking a lot of space 60-80gb i have an only 480gb ssd and now i am looking for a 1tb hard drive

for the graphics i suggest you buy the rx 470, it is one of the best price/performance cards and it is really good at 1080p 60fps, the 4gb model, forget about the 8gb model

and the motherboard only allows for 1 chassis fan, you should look for a motherboard that allows 2 or 3 or you can get a chassis fan splitter to connect more fans

I've found the ssd on ebay for as low as 61 but it was taken before I could buy. I see an 850 Pro going for 50 right now and a lot of bidders and I may take my chances and bid. So far, I don't have anything

Well, I'm going to give you some hard core truth, trying to get THOSE parts is not going to be under $400. You may want to save up until you get at least 500 to 600. Or, you could lower your standards, and just get an SSD later. I usually try to stay away from 2nd hand parts being that you can't truly test it out until it's in your hands.

The rx 470 is a bit pricey for me,and coupled with the other components, its $73 over my budget. Is there anything I can replace the cpu with for a lower price but same or near equivalent performance?

Yeah, you're probably right. For now I'm just gonna look around and see what I can get for a reasonably cheap price

This is probably the best you can get for your budget, it ain't the prettiest, but it will get the job done:

Wow,that price isn't shabby at all. Thanks a lot! I'll leave this thread open though just in case anyone else has any improvements/upgrades. I plan to purchase this around June so maybe the prices will also have gone down by then. And a question, how does the caviar compare to a Seagate 1tb hdd?

I would go with WD. Seagate has been known to have issues and early failures. I had about 4 and all of them died. But maybe it's just me. I know some people who are happy with the Seagates. It's up to you. I just like WD because of their wonderful warranty and reliability.

It will work, but you are missing a hard drive. Also, the parts in the EVGA 500 bronze is a bit iffy. You can try this instead:

To save on money I was planning on usint the 1 tb hdd I already have so that's why that one didn't have a hdd. Is it possible that I can use any of the parts such as the fans and ram from my current OptiPlex? If I need more ram than 4 gb(which I'm sure I will) I can always upgrade later right?
