First off, im a PS4 player, simply because they had Socom:Navy Seals game...i know.... Ive finally decided to commit to building a PC, i meant to a while ago. Mainly for gaming; world of warships, Arma 3/DayZ type, war thunder are the ones i can think of. Id like to stay at 60 fps on high settings. But im sure Arma still just sucks no matter what components you have. It would be nice to get a 1440 monitor to watch movies/videos on, and i think i could play some lesser games on it too.

So far, my build list:
I5 6700k
G Skill 2x4gb RipjawsZ(speed??)
Samsung 960 evo 250gb M.2
Zalman red led CPU cooler
Meant:it 5pm mid tower
Asus GTX 1070 oc

I have a brand new Asus 660ti and XFX xtr 650 PSU from when I originally intended to build a PC. So if i can use the GPU to get by for a month or so and spend more on more/better RAM or other components, please let me know.

Now for the MB. I was looking at the Asus Z270H. What makes the other Strix MBs more expensive? Do the Asus boards still have the "one click oc" thing?

Are there better price to performance components i should look into?

FYI, i plan on getting a 850 evo 500mb ssd within a month or two after the build.

Thank you for your time and any advice you could give me.

What is your actual budget?

Skimping on SSD/HDD now will make you very sad later and is a waste of money when you can get 'more' for a little more. If you give a top number for your budget, you'll get far better suggestions. I just did an AMD build and used the 960 Evo 500GB drive for my OS and for $250, it's a good deal and option if you want your games on that drive.... otherwise you can get away with the 250 for a few weeks, just use an old HDD if you can until you get the 850 Evo installed, then close your HDD over.

There are a few issues with this build. First of all, the i5-6700K doesn't exist. Are you talking about the i5-6600K? If you decide to go with the i5, that's fine, but they are much better price-to-perf options out there.

If you don't know, AMD has recently returned to the PC gaming market, with very solid processors under the Ryzen name. I would suggest you go with an R5 1400 and a B350 motherboard.

8GB of RAM is enough, but I would personally go with 16GB because that will be the new standard in another 2 years.

The SSD is not nearly big enough to store more than 5 games. I would go with an SSD boot drive and HDD storage drive combo.

Zalman is not a good company to buy a case from. Try Fractal, Corsair, Thermaltake, Bitfenix, or be quiet!.

The PSU is also somewhat sketchy. Why not go with something from EVGA or Corsair?

The 660 Ti can hold you up for 1080p Medium settings for maybe another half year at max. After that, it'll need to be retired.

As for your question on the ASUS boards, I'm not an expert in that area, but you can watch NCIX's video on them for a thorough review.

Sorry about the confusion on CPUs, I just started to look into computer parts again. its an I5-7600k, the Kaby Lake one.

Ive watched some videos on YouTube comparing the new AMD CPUs to comparable Intel chips. But i don't understand what any of the benchmark nubers mean.

The case i picked is the Mean:it 5PM

The CPU cooler is made by Zalman

The M.2 storage is just to hold me over till i can save up for the Samsung 850 evo 500gb SSD. Or perhaps another M.2.

I still need a quality monitor, keyboard and mouse. Thats why im skimping on the storage and RAM up front.

As i re-read your post, i noticed you recommended a non overclockable MB. For my level of build and performance requirements, is it worth the extra money to OC?
