I have read a lot of threads on this now and I wanted to know is it okay to press "cancel format" in disk management and use the quick format option instead, the drive is the Seagate ST4000DM005 4TB Barracuda. It seemed as though most other threads here were saying that Full Format is not needed, and I wanted to know that if this is the case is it okay to cancel the current format.

Thank you in advance!

J.H.

EDIT: Something that I found after was this article from Seagate http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/220151en#Formatting your drive in Windows

That specifically states "Make sure quick format is selected" when formatting internal drives

Thank you very much for the reply and the input!

I have a second one of these drives, which I will format the quick way, but I had to cancel the format at 6% the first time around, how will I be able to tell if I corrupted the drive? Will it be fixable with a reformat that I am currently running (the full format)? Is there a program that I should run to make sure that I did not damage the drive, it is still under 14 day return and replace policy should I take it back?

Oh, that is good, because after I cancelled it the first time, and quick formatted it worked, if the full format that is currently running finishes without error does that mean that the drive is in full working order? Sorry for all of the questions but I don't know much when it comes to hard drives and storage in general.

Thanks!
