Win7 64bit thinks it is Vista or XP and won't install applications unless "Run As Admin" is used. Several program updates that are need for software do not install because it says the OS is an unsupported version Vista or XP. If Run As Admin is used then the software installs. Any suggestions?

Ok, we'll go with that. What specific titles (and versions) are involved here. If they were produced before Windows 7 existed then they may very well not recognize Windows 7 as a valid version. In addition, "Run as Administrator" for installations is not at all unusual as installers may need access to restricted areas of the file system or registry. In some cases you may have to set up a shortcut to the installer and use compatibility mode.

i assume the installers aren't set to compatibility mode

Wonder why PC thinks it Vista or XP

i wish google was more useful, search "win 7 cannot update programs unless run as admin" and every result is about cannot open... no, listen to me for once...

i wonder if running sfc /scannow in command prompt admin will help, something is wrong here.
