Hi so i was wondering if someone could help me with this

So my specs is.

Specs:

CPU:
AMD Black Edition AMD FX 4100 / 3.8 GHz prosessor
- OCZ Performance CPU Cooling

8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM

ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 MOTHERBOARD
- True USB 3.0 & SATA 6Gb/s Support
- Gigabit LAN,
- 8-channel High Definition Audio CODEC

Zotac GeForce GTX 670 2gb GPU
- AMP! Overclock Edition
- GPU Clock 1100 MHz, Memory Clock 6600 MHz
- GPU Boost, PhysX, TXAA, NVIDIA G-SYNC-ready, 3D Vision, CUDA, Adaptive VSync, FXAA

1 TB SATA HDD (7200 rpm)

550w Coolemaster Modular PSU

Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Silent ATX

So I was wondering if i could pop in a amd fx 8350 and radon 580 msi without changing psu or motherboard. Om mot overclocking so Will the Stock Cooler for 8350 do the Job?

Thank you!

Just because it's supported on paper doesn't mean it's not problematic in the real world. In the real world an uncooled 4+1 VRM setup is going to have issues with the 125w cpus, even the 4+1 boards with VRM heatsinks have issues. It's a very common and well known issue with the 760g and lower end 970 boards.

A 125w cpu on that motherboard is a bad idea as they are prone to VRM throttling due to poor thermal and power design. As for the PSU I'd need to know the exact model as coolermasters range from complete and utter garbage to good.

Given the motherboard you have I wouldn't waste any money upgrading that platform wait till you can afford an upgrade to Ryzen or Intel.

that CPU is supported on that MB. Asus thinks their VRM design is good enough.

Make sure you get to a bios later than the one in this table before you swap CPUs. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M5A97_LE_R20/HelpDesk_CPU/

I don't know which cooler, too many possible models match "OCZ Performance CPU Cooling" make sure it can handle 125W, and much more if you OC.

The case airflow should be fine. R4 has very good cooling (or at least my part temps went down when i moved them to my r4, love the case)

Think you are good to go. I would check your PSU against the reviews at hardwaresecret.com, etc. 550W is plenty for that config unless you OC heavily.

Aside: "If, during this overclock, your system shuts down, that's a new protection from AMD. You've reached either the heat, TDP or OCP limit (this seems to happen once the CPU pulls more than 26.5A from the 12V CPU rails (8pin and 4pin connectors). If that happens decrease the voltage a bit..." ".. we consume roughly 356 Watts..". If you plan to OC at that level the PSU is too small and the MB VRM comment comes into play bigtime. http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/amd-fx-8350-processor-review,20.html

i'd have to agree. also with this particular board i i have seen an abundance of issues when paired with the FX 8350..

Good, that sounds like better advice than i gave. If I was OP i'd think twice about using the 8350 on that board based on multiple "not a good idea" comments.
