Hi everyone, I recently purchased a custom-built gaming PC from my brother that's probably about 4-5 years old now. It looks like this:

Windows 10 64-bit
8gb RAM
4 Intel Core i5 CPUs
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 Graphics Card (All drivers fully up-to-date)

It played perfectly the whole time he had it, however soon after I got it it began crashing with every game even mildly intensive. The audio loops, screen goes black, and the monitor disconnects and won't reconnect even if it is unplugged and plugged back in. The only way to get it back to normal is to reset the computer. I know its not caused by any issues with temps because all temps on the temp monitor read fine even while playing. Its not dust as I opened up the computer and it was not dusty at all. Its also not the PSU because when it crashes the keyboard still works and is responsive, so it's still receiving power. No CPU's are parked and GPU drivers are completely up-to-date. At first I thought it was an issue with the OS because I got a message saying Microsoft.NET is corrupted, so I completely reinstalled windows, but it is still happening. The crash doesn't always occur immediately, sometimes it doesn't happen until even a few hours into playing, however more often it occurs a few seconds or minutes in. It also only occurs with games, not any other applications. Any help would be appreciated, as at this point my $800 computer is basically no more useful than a Chromebook. I have no idea why it is happening, so please help!

Solution
Hi,
this kind of problem can be caused by many things,
CPU /GPU / PSU overheating: monitor cpu with hwmonitor and msi afterburner for GPU.
The psu needs to be swapped with known working PSU

could be the psu getting too old and chokes on high power demands like gaming.

Its also not the PSU because when it crashes the keyboard still works and is responsive, so it's still receiving power.
Not tru, a choking psu to provide enough power to gpu might freeze the computer but not shut down.

It could be a application error( windows, .net, gpu drivers)
look at windows log to see if you find any info about crashes.

Since your computer is 4-5 year old, I would definitively check the psu. Especially if it is low end.

good luck

Yes it is a quad-core and I tried that but I couldn't install the new download no matter what I tried to do to delete the old version so that's why I did a full windows reset. The OS is brand new now.
