Hello first time poster here, I got CoD4 from a savers a couple of days ago and I'm getting this problem. The game wasn't installing correctly with the disc cause it was stuck on "updating component registration" so I pasted the disc contents onto my PC. Played the game for a while then closed it and took the disc out. Now today I put the disc back in and I open up the singleplayer program but keeps giving me the error of "Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application." I've looked everywhere on other forums, I've tried changing the compatibility settings of the exe, tried running as admin but it just doesn't work. Any ideas on why it's not working?

Hopefully the moderators won't get mad at me for this.

You might have to use a program like Daemon Tools to rip an .iso of the disc and mount it as a virtual disc, and then reinstall the game from that. Just copying the files off the disc can lead to issues like the one you're having because the game tries to look in your DVD drive, but the registry is pointing elsewhere, so the game breaks.

I already had Daemon Tools installed at the time. Tried your suggestion but it still gives me the Insert Correct DVD-ROM error. I also tried deleting Daemon Tools along with the drivers but to no avail. It doesn't matter anymore though because I installed the game on my older desktop PC and it worked perfectly.

i also had this issue but it solved... there are two ways in which you can fix this...
1) download single player crack and just paste it into the folder where COd 4 is installed
2) the other way is microphone, multiplayer games run with a microphone

I hope that it will fix your issue

You seriously need to stop giving advice; I have yet to see you give truly helpful advice in any thread you've posted in.

1) Tom's Hardware does not support piracy of any kind, even to fix an otherwise legitimate copy of a game.

2) How in the heck did you go from his computer not reading a DVD to it being a microphone issue?
