Restoring data or incrementally backing up

With all the hacking etc around, I am becoming nervous about my data files.
Is there any basic real difference between a weekly incremental backup of my data files and simply using the create restore point facility every week?

Solution
If you do incrementals, you should periodically (monthly) do a fresh complete backup. Having a complete backup that is too old, means that you have to add too many incrementals on top.

Backups are to different media and potentially off-site. You can keep multiple versions of backups, and keep them off the network.
A restore point only handles system files. User files are not part of a system restore point.
