So here's what happened:

I've been using this computer since I built it about 1 month ago, during the build process, I messed up the cooler installation and smeared thermal paste all over the CPU - I cleaned it off the CPU and smeared it back into shape on the cooler and thought no more of it, I'm not sure if this is related but I felt it may be useful info.

Anyway, I've mainly been playing The Witcher 3 and light games: I've had no problem in the past month, getting a smooth 50-60fps on ultra. However I recently started a new game and I've been getting huge lag spikes (down to 0 for often 5 seconds at a time), especially in parts which involve the cursor in a GUI (not sure if this is related), but at seemingly random moments in general.

I thought nothing of it until today, when I loaded up chrome, was playing some music and changed tabs - my mouse froze, then my screen turned black, the music started buzzing and nothing was responsive, I had to manually turn off the computer by holding the power button.

So as you can probably tell I'm pretty worried right now.

All my drivers are up to date, and my temps seem to be pretty normal - here's a HWMonitor screenshot with the same sort of chrome tabs and programs open.

My temps in game are around: CPU: 50-60 Degrees Celsius GPU: 60-75 Degrees Celsius.

If anyone has any solutions or possible ways I can diagnose the problem I would very much appreciate it!

it you activate watmann that reduce power consommation for gpu when not needed , that is you gpu so try gpu tweak https://www.asus.com/ca-fr/Graphics-Cards/DUAL-RX480-O4G/ seen some have issue on it with msi afterburner .

I haven't changed any settings in the crimson driver, I've mainly used afterburner to monitor the temps - the fan speed increases after the temperature hits 50, hitting about 70% fan speed on 80 Degrees.

Unfortunately I do not have another PSU to test. I don't actually use the fan curve in afterburner, I just use the factory one that came with the GPU.

Also what do you mean set the wattmann? Right now everything is set to automatic, am I supposed to customise it? What settings should I use?
