So this recently started happening to me about 2 weeks after building my new computer. Specs are as follows:
So here's what happened:
I've been using this computer since I built it about 1 month ago, during the build process, I messed up the cooler installation and smeared thermal paste all over the CPU - I cleaned it off the CPU and smeared it back into shape on the cooler and thought no more of it, I'm not sure if this is related but I felt it may be useful info.
Anyway, I've mainly been playing The Witcher 3 and light games: I've had no problem in the past month, getting a smooth 50-60fps on ultra. However I recently started a new game and I've been getting huge lag spikes (down to 0 for often 5 seconds at a time), especially in parts which involve the cursor in a GUI (not sure if this is related), but at seemingly random moments in general.
I thought nothing of it until today, when I loaded up chrome, was playing some music and changed tabs - my mouse froze, then my screen turned black, the music started buzzing and nothing was responsive, I had to manually turn off the computer by holding the power button.
So as you can probably tell I'm pretty worried right now.
All my drivers are up to date, and my temps seem to be pretty normal - here's a HWMonitor screenshot with the same sort of chrome tabs and programs open.

My temps in game are around: CPU: 50-60 Degrees Celsius GPU: 60-75 Degrees Celsius.
If anyone has any solutions or possible ways I can diagnose the problem I would very much appreciate it!
