I bought a pack of Corsair's CMK16GX4M4B3200C16 that I had in mind to use in my Z270 build (Asus Strix E)
have I done something really stupid since they are listed as X99 ram?

It should work just fine.
Might need some tweaking to get to 3200 speed as with all overclocked memory speed.
Most of those will say X99 because that was the only platform for DDR4 and the description was never updated with the new platforms.

Thank you for the reply!

I felt kind of stupid when I opened the box and found fans along with the sticks. started to look through Asus compatabiltiy charts and got nervous.
Went to Corsairs website and turned slightly green since it only mentioned X99..

Have spent the evening honing my google-fu skills working at this :)
Finally found a video where the same package were used in a z170 board.

I´ll confirm the solution for posterity after the weekend, when I will have all parts and time to assembly.
