Hi there,

I am having some issues with my PC. It is only quite recently started doing this, so I am unsure what is the issue.

I have attached a vid showing exactly what is happening, however I am going to explain too.

If my PC has being off for several hours when I go to boot it up it almost always fails to boot first time and requires me to restart it using a button where it will boot fine the second try. On first boot I get the ROG logo come up and then some graphically glitched pink horizontal line across the screen. After this happens I just get a black screen on the monitor and the system does not boot into windows. All fans are still spinning and leds are on so the PC is still running just not reaching windows. When I force restart almost always the PC boots into Windows with no issues and I can play very demanding games with no hiccups.

Here is an attached video of what is happening (fortunately managed to catch it) [flash=320,240]https://www.youtube.com/v/zP2Mg_7Edrc[/flash]

My specs are:
Asus Maximus Hero VIII Motherboard
Intel Core i7 6700k with Hyper 212 evo cooler
EVGA FTW GTX 1080
(2x8GB) 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4
Sandisk 240GB SSD
WD Blue 1TB
Evga G2 750w modular PSU
Windows 10 Pro
(I might have missed something out but this is all off the top of my head)

My system is not overclocked whatsoever.

I also have an AOG Agon 1440p 144hz g-sync monitor.

While building this PC I a year ago I had some slight issues with ram. The motherboard was only picking up 8GB even though I had 16GBs in the slots (2x 8GB), but after playing around with bios updates I managed to get the 16GB showing and working fine. Since then I haven't had really any issues with the PC whatsoever up until very recently when this issue began.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I stupidly didn't even think about this! If I restart just now it will boot no problem, so when I boot tomorrow after the PC has been shut down (and it will fail to boot) I will check the code and report back!

Any rough ideas what it could be?

Hey,

So when I turned the PC on today it booted first time (had to happen haha). After turning PC off and the switch on the PSU for 10 seconds and restarting I managed to get the PC to do exact same as video above, only this time I watched the Q-Code instead of the screen.

I got a code 40. After some googling it seems to suggest that this issue could be down to fast start-up being enabled in Windows options?

Again a force restart after the error occurred the PC booted in no problem and is currently at A0 code and running no problem.

Should I turn off fast start-up and see if that makes a difference?

Yes I would turn off the fast start as it seems to be a common issue with this board along with it being related to boot only this is likely the issue. This video makes quick work of what to change for Windows 10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqQrsYsKGUc

Hi James,

Apology for delayed reply. I believe turning off fast start-up has fixed the issue.

I'm going to see if it is definitely fixed over next few days though before I pick your answer as the solution, just so I don't have to start another thread.

Thank you for your help! :)
