Apologies for the newbie question but I'm not very familiar with regards to network or how modems and router actually work. So i have issues with having high ping in online games and pretty much experience rubberbanding often. My pc is wired to the baudtec 300mbps wlan adsl2+router but there are like 4 people in the house including me who uses wifi on our phones. While searching some articles i saw some saying having separate the router and the modem gives better performance.
Q1. How different would it be if I get a separate modem and router?
Q2. In case i get a separate modem and since i can't wire my pc directly to the modem cause we need the router, Won't it be the same since basically I'm still connecting it to my router instead of the modem?
Sorry if that doesn't make sense.

Performance isn't the main reason to have a separate modem and router, flexibility is. Routers get replaced way more frequently than modems. A modem is only changed when you upgrade your service or switch providers. Routers get replaced for lots of reasons.

Q1: If you have your own modem/router or modem and router you will not be competing for bandwidth with other people in your house.

Q2: Having two routers connected to the same modem via a switch is still going to create a bottleneck at the modem. Plus some possible network configuration conflicts.

If you have your own modem you most likely be able to connect your PC (and only that PC) to the modem.

What it really narrows down to is you having your own ISP connection (subscription, contract...) dedicated to you and your requirements.

Caveat being that the current problems are not originating somewhere within the existing network and ISP connections.

And take a look at the ADSL splitter- it may be bad.

Get everyone involved together and do some tests. Log on one at a time and work for awhile. Then the next person, and the next etc. Determine where the performance falters.
