Upgraded my mobo and CPU but now my monitor doesn't connect?

I upgraded my computer with a Gigabyte 970-Gaming SLI motherboard and an AMD FX 8350 CPU. I have two sticks of compatible 8gig RAM (I checked) and an old graphics card, a few years old, that I can't remember the model of. I did the install today and when I turn my computer on it makes the booting sound, all the fans are working - case fan, CPU fan, video card fans - and everything is plugged in to the best of my knowledge, but my monitor receives no signal from my computer through the HDMI cable.

Not sure what other information I can provide. The video card is plugged into the PCI Express 16 slot and worked just fine today with my previous motherboard. The only other component I have is a WiFi card.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Edit: went to the store and bought a converter so I could try it with a VGA to DVI cable and I have the same problem then. So it isn't just lack of drivers for the HDMI cables. Or, doesn't seem to be.

Further edit: took it apart today and checked that my CPU was seated correctly (it was) and there are no hard points under the mobo that might be shorting it. 12v ATX is plugged in by the CPU. All plugs are correct as per the mobo manual. No wires are touching the mobo. I even shorted the CMOS (we were way outside my technical ability with that one) and removed the battery. I tried both RAM sticks in several slots to no effect. Everything led to the same outcome - it powers on, all fans run and the HDD sounds like it does when it's booting but my monitor says no signal from HDMI or DVI.

Please help!

Yet another edit: I installed a GeForce GTX 1050Ti with no change. However, could the issue be a lack of power supply? My PSU is only 430w, and with all these new components I'm wondering if that's my issue. Thoughts? Crickets? Anything? Also found this while searching the internet: "Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions." If I can't use my CPU unless I upgrade the BIOS but can't upgrade the BIOS unless I can use my CPU it seems I'm in a bit of a catch-22.

What is your previous PC? May try boot the PC without your boot drive, if you don't do the reinstallation OS when you switch the MB, you may get the problem.
By the way the amd 970 chipset MB does not need update the BIOS for the fx8350 anymore, because you can check the gigabyte site, they have the only one BIOS for that MB.
