Mine is Vietcong, I know it's quite dated now but it came from a time when a single bullet could kill you, also Vietcong for me has by far the best, creepiest atmosphere to a war game.
The AI was great for the time(and still is today), you really had to pay attention to every single step you took.
There were mines hidden everywhere, the vietcong fighters were really tough and clever, it was a really great war game, and for me at least it remains the best war game ever if you're after realism above all.

What's your all time favorite war FPS? Why?

For me has to be BF2
Might been the time I played it in but apart from the overpowered LAV it was a great game.
Not as casual& cod as Battlefield has become since BF3; a bunch of really great maps (which my biggest issue with BF1942 was tbh), fairly good balancing and the right mixture of casual fun and skill-based gameplay, with not all classes having automated weapons, heavier recoils and spray patterns, no regenerative health
Also the class distinction was pretty neat..
There was a good community back in the day with lots of dedicated servers that modified and enhanced the Gameplay
Last but not least the sepia teint of the image was kinda cozy.

I wish they made a game like that again..
The only game that came close to that was Star...

I have to cast my vote for BF1942, and some of its various mods that spawned several franchises. Forgotten Hope added all the WW2 vehicles and locations that Dice left out, had support continued instead of the rapid rubber stamping of the rest of the Battlefield franchise it would have really been something. Still can't believe they haven't tried to recapture that since the aborted 1943.

While being a more generic answer, call of duty world at war just has a place in my heart :) The campaign in that game was something else and something i genuinely enjoyed!

The only game that came close to that was Star wars: battlefront II (you know...before EA took over). This was just loads of fun to play

Counter Strike 1.6 and then CS:GO. The reason for it being my all time favorite is that this is the game through which I actually came into the gaming. Although I used to play Sega and Nintendo games prior to CS but wasn't much addicted to gaming. Reason of this addiction is the local tournaments I played and friends I had in it. Later on, CS:GO made it more interesting with designed weapons, gifts, ranks, etc.

Also, I'm playing Overwatch now and it's good, but won't mark it as my favorite FPS for now.

Cod:waw was okay campaign wise but the part where the whole army was stalemated at the bridge and they send you and like 4 dudes to do what the entire army can't kinda broke reality for me a bit much.

Sorta a stretch but the original America's Army is where I cut my teeth. You didn't hea after taking damage, when you died you died, and the army themselves actually designed and ran it as a recruiting tool.

I remember the original America's Army and playing it online while chatting with other players, that game was really good and very realistic, probably the most realistic of all when it comes to war FPS.
