No games will launch on a new laptop

So, I've a small issue, and it's really taken me by surprise. I just got a new laptop, the Lenovo Y520. It's great. It has a 1050ti, 16GB RAM, and an i7 7700HQ Processor. It performs great as well! I've run into a small problem, however. No games will play on the machine. Now, this came out of nowhere. I hadn't installed anything between when it did work, and when it stopped. These include ALL games. Not just Steam. Uplay, Origin, Battle.net, and Steam. Now, the real mystery is that each game fails differently. GTA V will get to the R* logos, and then go black, and crash. BF1/4 will just not launch whatsoever. Steep, and Overwatch will launch for 5-10 seconds, and quit with no warning, or error whatsoever. And, the icing on the cake, is that when I try to reinstall DirectX, or vcredist, those setups crash right before they complete. I'm extremely confused, as everything else works fine, and the PC detects the 1050ti, CPU, and the RAM. If it helps, everything is located on one SSD (M.2, 512GB), except Steam, which is located on the 2TB 5400RPM HDD, so the issue is effecting both drives. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I have a similar problem with my gaming laptop, and have been curious if newer laptops (with the Nvidia 10x0 series) have been experiencing it. The 2D intro and splash screens will work, but the game crashes when it tries to do 3D stuff.

I tracked down the problem to Windows 10 insisting on updating the Intel (and sometimes the Nvidia) video drivers with ones that don't work in a laptop's Optimus configuration. I have to download the Intel and Nvidia drivers from my laptop manufacturer's website, disable the Windows update service, then install the Intel and Nvidia drivers.

Nope, still failing. I should mention that, at least GTA V, as soon as the logos disappear, I hear like a 3 second segment of the sirens in the intro repeat over and over for like 30 seconds before the game crashes.

If I re-enable the Windows update service, it immediately downloads and replaces the Intel video drivers with the newer (but non-functional) ones (sometimes the Nvidia ones as well). So basically I have to live with Windows Updates turned off. Once a month, I turn it on so it can update everything. Then I turn it off and reinstall the Intel and Nvidia drivers from the manufacturer's website.

You need both the manufacturer's Intel and Nvidia drivers. In Optimus laptops, the Intel video card always drives the screen. The Nvidia GPU acts as a co-processor. When it completes drawing a frame, it passes it to the Intel video for display. So they both need the correct drivers to work with each other. The generic ones Windows Update installs on my laptop don't work with Optimus.
