Hi, I recently purchased but have not yet received this computer:

I was concerned that 8gb of ram was too light for a gaming computer. I am not a hardcore gamer, but I may play Civ VI on it, and I will definitely do a lot of multitasking on it and some database work and programming on it. So I was going to buy this 8gb ram to add to it to make it 16gb of ram:

But will combining the two different rams cause a problem or should it work out okay? Should I really just be buying two 8gb sticks of it? And what do I do with the ram that comes with it if I do buy two sticks? What is the best solution without wasting money?

Thanks for any help you can give! Sorry for asking what may be stupid questions for some of you.

It's hard to say if this will definitely work or not, it can be hit or miss with mixing RAM modules. I would say just wait til it all comes in, try it with one RAM stick to make sure it works, then try it with both. If it works, you should be good to go. If not, just RMA the extra ram you bought, and buy a 16 gig kit.

I can tell you from personal experience that I have mixed RAM modules several times in the past and never encountered an issue. I am currently running 2x4 Viper DDR3 ram in tandem with 2x8 HyperX ram, and it works fine for me. My brother is running 2x4 HyperX DDR3 with 1x8 of some other brand and his works fine as well.

Like I said, it can be hit or miss, but I've found that it works more often than not. And in your...
That's not always good to mix differen't RAM sticks. You need to know the CAS latency and timings for the RAM. I would recommend waiting what you get, and then download CPU-Z to figure out the timings, and go from there. 8GB should be enough for gaming though.
