Best cheap graphics run games at low settings 720p

Solution
i see 750ti used prices on ebay trending well above $50usd which i consider unacceptable. i bought a brand new rx460 $61 after rebate and it is considerably faster than the 750ti. as far as a new card the newly released gt1030 and rx550 will both do 720p at high settings with well above 40fps in almost any game today. though both are about $80 without any deals or rebate. i anticipate in the next month or so we will see good deals on them in the $50-60 range.

that said, is this computer a prebuilt like a dell? how wide is your computer case and what is the model? if it is a slim profile design then you will be limited to low profile graphics cards and possibly single slot too. there are quite a few low profile gt1030 cards...

depends on the rest of your setup

adding a gpu wont help if your setup is weak

a used gtx 750 ti would do

Questions like this are hard to answer because they are so vague. What does 'play modern titles' mean? You mean will the game boot up and run, even if it's at 20fps? Or does 'play' to you means a certain minimum framerate? Also, it's not just about your videocard, your CPU and potentially the amount of system ram you have will also determine how a game 'plays'.

To answer your question in a preliminary way, an Nvidia GT 730 DDR5 is the cheapest new gaming videocard you can get. It's not a good card really, but you CAN 'play' newer games on it at low resolution and settings, although I'd recommend lower than 720p for that card.

A used card would be much better. an AMD HD 7770 or 7790 would be a better deal than a GT 730 in that price range.

Sorry I didn't post my specs here it is:

Intel core i3 540
4GB DDR3 Ram
Intel HD graphics (obvs. Since I still donmt have a graphics card)

I want to play games like Outlast 2, GTA V etc at a decent framerate (30FPS above is acceptable )

then on top of the gtx 750 ti

you are also going to need to upgrade the cpu and get 8gb of ram total

your dual core with 4gb of ram is not enough

If you had 8gb ram, it would help eliminate frame drops and stuttering in the newer games you want to play. You'll also want a quad core CPU. Your CPU dates from right before Sandy Bridge, so your easy CPU upgrade option is only another dual core w/hyperthreading. If your motherboard can accommodate a quad core of some type then you're in luck. Even an old quad core can help compared to a dual core.

Otherwise you need to be realistic with this CPU. When you're on a tight budget and working with old tech, it's not reasonable to think you'll be able to play the latest games and enjoy decent framerate. Just dropping resolution and settings only gets you so much performance boost, it doesn't fix fundamental problems with an inadequate system.

any cards higher tier than the gtx 1050 or rx560/rx460 are going to run into a cpu bottleneck on your platform. even if you put in an i5 680, which is the best possible cpu upgrade you can drop in, you wouldn't get a performance jump worth the money.
