Hello everyone. I am looking to build a computer that would be mainly used to edit videos/vfx and animating, but also have the capability to play some games (not my main focus, but a bonus).

The computer I am using now is a laptop, with windows 7. Therefore, I would need a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

I have no idea about computers, so any help would be much appreciated!

Solution
EDIT: Disregard this, there is no monitor/keyboard/mouse here, so it's way over budget. This keeping this here, in case someone else wants to use it.

So here is a pretty much editing beast. You have a new Ryzen 7 which has 8cores/16thread and is WAY better than the FX series AMD released. It comes with a cooler, so no need to wwy about that. Since you are editing and animating, trying to get those smooth previews, you will need good RAM, so got you 3200mhz of 16GB DDR4 RAM. Since you probably will have a lot of videos, 2TB seems like a good fit, with a 250gb SSD that allows you to have faster boot times. In fact, you can render faster by saving it to your SSD and copying over to your hard drive. The RX 570 is new, and isn't the best...
The 6 core Ryzen can match the costy 6 core 6800k in your work stuff. It can be overclocked to match the 7600k in games.

Lastly, a nice SeaSonic 550w power supply that should be more than you need.

Solution
Its over budget but can be lowered, albeit with some corners being cut.
I went with the build below.
Ryzen 1700. 8 cores and 16 threads. Is there really more you could ask for?
Decent black motherboard, pretty decent options for USB Gen 2.0 and M.2 SSDs.
RAM. Its not that special or flashy, but its a 2800 mhz kit that will get the job done.
SSDs and storage: A Samsung 960 for the fastest boot times possible and a decent 7200rpm for all of your other stuff.
Video card: Just an RX 570. Since its gaming on the side and 1080p then you won't need a beefy card.
Case: I went with the Fractal Core 2300. Its affordable, quality, looks professional and has decent airflow.
PSU: Just another reliable Tier 2 PSU with enough power to last through future upgrades.
Monitor: I chose a 22" monitor. May seem basic at first glance. But it has basically no bezel and its an IPS display for a brighter picture, that will definetly be a plus for photo and video editing. Its only 60hz but you won't be getting 144 fps for a high refresh rate to be relevant.
Mouse + Keyboard are just basic solutions, modified to be suitable for light gaming.

Not as great for gaming, but still a powerful editing machine and closer to your budget.
