So I want to use the ram I have currently in my old desktop which is DDR3 PC3-10600 2x 2gb and I was wondering if it would work with this motherboard a MSI 970a SLI Krait Edition.

My other question is does it matter whether the ram is PC3-10600 or can I also put in and use another 2gb DDR3 stick of PC3-12800 mixed together or does it matter if it's different PC3 numbers.

Solution
The old ram should work fine in that MSI board. Mixing Ram might work, but on that board as it uses dual channel memory it is usually best to add memory in pairs. Also using different speed ram can work but might require you to manual set the ram speed to the slowest ram. It is all luck of the draw when mixing ram..

The PC3 numbers tell you what speed the ram is rated for. Your old pair is DDR3 1333Mhz aka PC3-10600. The PC3-12800 is DDR3 1600Mhz ram.

Correct.. It might work just fine but till you test it all together you will not know 100%. Also you will probably have to run all of them at 1333mhz.
