X99 vs Z270E for gaming

Hello folks,

I know this question has been asked before, but I want a an answer for my situation.

I'm thinking about building a gaming PC. Which motherboard-CPU combination is better.

1- The ASUS LGA2011 STRIX X99 motherboard with Core i7-6800K.
2- ASUS ROG STRIX Z270E with Core i7-7700K.

Also, what do you think is better for the money, a GTX 1070 or 1080? I have a 4K display, but I don't necessarily have to game at 4K.

Niether because Intel is launching the x299 in about 2 weeks. Get it and the 7740K or one of their i9 skylake-x 6 cores. These should be up for sale mid June. Get the 1080 ifyou have the cash.

I vote for #2.

X99 might be good if you needed more than dual gpu support or more than 8 threads.

Few games can actually use more than 4 threads so I7-7700K would be my pick.
On the graphics, try to buy the GTX1080 if you have a 4k monitor. That is about right to game at 60 fps.
If you buy anything less, you will forever wonder if you made a mistake.
