I just finished building my computer and I am having some problems. When I pressed the power button it did not start up. I tried turning the power supply on and off but that didn't solve my problem either.

I ended up having to remove my case cover and unplugging the power supply several times for it to start. I was able to go through the process of getting all my drivers installed hopping that the problem would stop. However, whenever I tried to turn my computer back on the same problem continued.

An additional problem I'm having is the computer will turn off whenever I slightly touch it (i.e. insert headphones, insert USB). I thought maybe a wire touching the motherboard, but I confirmed that wasn't the problem. I'm asking for help now, I don't know what to do.

My build---
Intel - Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
MSI - z270-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Corsair - Vengeance LPX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Western Digital - Black Series 3TB Internal Hard Drive
EVGA - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition Video Card
EVGA - 450W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Old Antec Tower Case

Thanks Guys!

Update - I just alt-tabbed and my computer crashed

I'm starting to think pcpartpicker messed up and I don't have a good enough power supply.

Can I please have some input?

80+ bronze rating isn't as good as you think. I'd go for something like Seagate s12g 550w if you don't mind a non-modular PSU. I always go 80+ gold or better. On my first build, I got an 80+ bronze and that was my issue first-hand. pcpartpicker has to be taken with a grain of salt, sometimes they mess up. If you look at the specs for that card on Newegg. The system requirements do call for a 500w PSU. Solution: Recommend getting a 500w+ PSU w/ 80+ Gold rating or better.

I'm 99% positive the reason your computer is turning off is your case. Since it's old, I'm assuming it's used and your button may have issues. Solution: get a new one.

TL;DR, 80+ bronze rating is the second lowest tier of PSU and 450w is not enough to power your beefy GPU and your case is old, so that's problably your problem with your comp turning off all the time.

Thanks for the reply, I'll head to the shop and buy an upgraded power supply and a case.

However why would it be turning off when I just barely touch the computer.

I'll keep you posted and let you know if that's the solution.

If you mean't that barely knocking it turned it off (Hard shutdown I assume), then the mobo might be shorting on the case when it shifts. It's happened to me before. Otherwise, let me know.

It's still turning off, here's a list of what I was doing when the computer has turned off:

1) Inserting/moving USB connections in the back port
2) Inserting audio in back ports
3) Alt tabbing
4) Just playing a game
5) Slightly moving my desk

***Sometimes I do these things and nothing happens.

I don't know what's wrong with it and it's a lot of money to spend to not really know. People have been telling me motherboard, case and power supply which would easily be another $200.

I've tried some test on the case:

- Confirmed the power button on the case works by using a voltmeter to test the power.
- Checked that all the standoffs are on correctly.
- I've checked all the connections are on correctly

Are there any additional tests I could try to narrow down the problem?

Man, I don't really know, I'm just going off personal experience. It seems that I'm the only one replying on this thread so check with other forums sections (Power Supply, GPU, etc.) and see what they think. Post your findings from here over there and see if you can get some answers (hopefully similar one's to mine) for consistencies sake, I'd rather you not spend money on my word but collectively. I'm not a professional as are most that are on here so check with others before pulling the trigger.
