Hi, I currently live in a large house in the countryside where the router is at one end of the house. We don't have fibre optic available, so we are stuck on copper (maxed out at 2.5mb/s download). We have an extender connected to the router in the Kitchen at the complete opposite end of the house. My computer and PS4 is in my room above the Kitchen connected wirelessly to the extender and I achieve about 60kb/s instead of the 500kb/s I can get connected through ethernet. How can I get better speeds?

Powerline adapter would be the easiest option.

Running an ethernet cable through wall and down to your location is the best option, but is a task that in most cases requires specialty tools and knowledge in how a hosue is framed. If your 2 story house is a unfinished basement (or at least no drywall on ceiling) and a story above it then it is not too difficult, but if you are talking 2 stories above the ground then that is significantly more difficult.

Yes, as ss202sl suggested.
You should try powerline adapters.
OR
(Depending on how big your house is.)
You could try to up your router or range extender. Do you know which wireless standard you are using? (AC or N)
You can also get high gain antenna's for your router. (Depending on the router itself. [They have to be removable.])
OR
A combination would work..
Like a powerline adapter that has a range extender in your room that will allow a wired connection and more wireless signal...
Plenty of options available... I think the best/cheapest solution is the powerline adapters.

The downside to powerline adapters though.. if your house has very old electric wiring you may have issues with those devices. Personally I used those in a house that has SOME new wiring but some from the 1950's. It worked well most of the time but about once or twice a week I'd have to reset the devices because of the old wiring.

Yeah, it's two stories above the ground and the router is a good 40 ft away.

No, it doesn't contain any old wiring. It is all 21st century. I have a BT-Homehub 4 supplied by BT (which is crap, always have been). Would a new router with a higher range be any use?
