[CPU overheating] How much lag can cause and how is it caused?

So, recently i'm getting huge lag spikes in games, trying to solve the problem i discovered that my cpu is hiting 105ºC.
I know that this is Ultra bad and while i write this post i'm preparing to go out to buy a thermal paste and a new cpu cooler(Change the default one that comes with the cpu).
My question is how CPU overheating lags games?
Like, does the cpu frequency decreases? does the comunication with the GPU starts to fail? things like that.

welp, you have most likely degraded your cpu but that is fine since it should last you roughly another 12 months on life support :p
you should get an evo 212 by cooler master and a tube of thermal grizzly kryonaut. do you have any case fans? if so, how many??

So the best one available at the local store was the http://www.evercool.com.tw/categories/global/cooler/cpucooler/intel/1366/hpn-9525/transformers.php , for a emergency its quite good i think.
Right now my CPU in is at ~33C, quite good compared with the ~75 from before :D.
I gonna test performance while gaming and post the results.

EDIT:

Game: Overwatch
Settings: medium-low
FPS: 10 - 30
CPU temp: 105ºC

|==After==|
Game: Overwatch
Settings: Ultra
FPS: 140-160
CPU temp: 42ºC

Amazing results :D haha
