Hi, I'm going to buy a new CPU tomorrow. I can get an i5 3470 for 60€ or an i5 2500k for 80€. I'm not sure which to get however. My current motherboard does not support overclocking so that isn't the decider here (although, I might buy a new mobo as well some time in the future). The big decider right now is the difference in architecture. The 3470 is newer = better? I really don't know and from the benchmarks it seems that they're almost identical in terms of performance. Thanks for any advice.

Solution
The 3470 hands down for your situation. As you mentioned, you won't be able to overclock with your motherboard. Given that info, the unlocked CPU 1 generation behind the other is 20euros more. The cheaper option is the better option for you.
