Are DP to DP and mDP to DP cables able to do 144 hz?

Good day everyone

I'm planning to buy the ViewSonic XG2401 monitor as my 144hz monitor for my laptop. I was wondering if this exact cable would work as intended as I have read things about active mini dp to dvi adapters I just wanted the make sure right before I purchase it.

Really appreciate any help at all.

Hello... DVI cable is not rated/constructed for 144hz operation... DP and mini DP is... so a cable with mini DP on one end and DP on the other is rated for 1080P 144HZ operation... and it's that simple for you.

Larger displays use (2K-4K etc) will require different cable construction and DP communication specs for the larger DATA packets required...and a Spec will be posted for manufacturers to design equipment to it, and consumers to buy reliable/dependable products.

For the other people?... they are trying to 'hack' a connection, OC the cable specs... adding 'Latency" to the video connection with the use of other than a direct connection B D

what I actually meant was do I still need something like an active dp to dp or would any dp to dp cable work just fine and output 144 hz

Hello... No you will NOT need any other device IF you got Displayport output from the laptop and a DP input to the monitor... If you need to go to very long cable runs? then a signal Amplifier might/will be needed B /

List your laptop/web page for me to check over?

You listed a "thunderbolt" labeled DP connector... and that throws me off as to what that really means in your situation... and the cable construction or proper use. ThunderBolt and DP are not the same things... but the cables are designed to carry the same signals... But the wiring of the connectors between the Laptop and monitor need to be satisfied.

Is your laptop a Thunderbolt communications connector? or DP communications connector?

all I know is my laptop only has a mDP port

so technically there is no difference between mDP and DP and there are no active and passive variants for DPs compared to people who use an active mDP to dvi adapter?

okay I see thank you so much for your help I didn't want to make another mistake since I bought a 144 hz monitor with only dual link dvi and HDMI and had to buy an active mDP to dvi converter but then I encountered some problems with changing into 144 hz saying "incorrect cable" popping up the screen so I just decided to return it

Hello... Ya... some cables look the same on the outside... But what's inside is what maters B ) Like I said as a Consumer you can view posted specs/standards for most consumer products/technology... and always "Buyer beware" and read the fine print and actual posted specs... and you will make better educated decisions.
