Can I heavily overclock with a single 6pin to 8pin pci adapter?

I have a silencer mk ii 750w 80+silver psu and a 1060 6gb msi gpu.

The gpu takes an 8 pin but I have to use the 8 pin for my motherboard. This leaves only a 6pin. I lost the other 6 pin modular cable so here is my question.

If I get a 6pin(one pin) to 8pin adapter can I push the gpu to the limits safely?

Important note to start: the PCIE connectors are *not* interchangeable with the CPU connectors. If you managed to do so, Very Bad Things were likely to happen.

Also, are you positive that this is your PSU? I could be wrong (it's late) but I don't believe the MK II was modular and the MK III was Gold. And the modular one should have two 6+2 cables in addition to the two 6-pin cables.

Ya man it's definitely my psu. It's fully modular no doubt. It may have had those cables (possibly) but I lost them. The reason for this is because it was my fathers psu and he gave it to me to use and some of the cables got lost. Now I only have a 6 pin.

Thanks for the tip about cpu cables I didn't know the difference. Could you tell me how to identify them?
