What's the best GPU for ultra graphics gaming (1080p) ?

"Best" is something that would handle stable fps(60Hz-144Hz) and graphics (My opinion)
I was looking up on youtube a bit that GPU's like GTX 1080 and GTX 1080ti are more likely for 4K gaming and more expensive.. But I only need something that would handle most of the games in high/ultra settings for 1080p so maybe GTX 1070-1060 would be fine for what I'm looking for..
Also I'm not exactly looking for AMD graphics cards, because I got already G-Sync monitor..

There is a huge difference in requirements to run at 144fps vs 60fps.
If you have the budget and can decide between GTX1070 or GTX1060, then I suggest you buy the GTX1070.
If you buy the lesser card, you will forever wonder if you did the right thing.
What is the rest of your system now? Or is this for a proposed build?
Could you possibly be cpu limited?

I believe I'm gonna buy GeForce GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming 8G seems like a strong card... I have the buged, especially when I can sell my old card in ebay for around 200 Euros...
My system shouldn't be limiting anything when I'll have new GPU, but as of now I believe I have stronger CPU than my GPU, I got right now a i7-6700K for a CPU and a GeForce GTX 960 WindForce x3 4GB GPU. So I'm basically just changing GPU's because GTX 960 is pretty slow to be honest, it is better than what I had before but just not comfortable with it right now...
