Upgrading graphics card - problems

Hello all, this is my first time writing here but I need some help :)

I recently bought a new pc and had a leftover GPU which I wanted to install in my roommates pc.
But after removing the existing card and inserting the "new", the computer flat out fails to boot. No reaction when hitting power button. I'll explain the parts:

The new card is a Asus GeForce GTX 780 Ti - and it replaces a Zotac Geforce GTX 660.
Other parts of interest: power supply is XFX 750w and the motherboard is a MSI B75MA-P45.

When installing the new card I can see that it connects with two 8-pin power connectors. The old Zotac card had just one 6-pin connector. The Asus card has control LEDS to show power is ok, and when I plug in two 8-pins and turn power to the PSU on, they both light green. (I tried with only one 8-pin, and the missing one turned red) so it indicates that it has accepted the connectors)

My question is, what can cause this non-response? I am not crafty with all the bios flashing and mobo resetting, and hope to hear that there might be something else I am missing. The only thing I haven't tried and to be honest I couldn't see it as the culprit, is to remove drivers.
Can the old drivers really cause the computer not to boot at all (not even to an error beep or anything)?

Another thing I was wondering, can there be a mobo requirement for the GPU? Let me know if you need more info, and I appreciate any help you can give, even if it's just pointing me to another post.

Yep.But if I reinstall the original GPU it works fine.
I know one of the possibilities is that it's a faulty card, but it worked fine with absolutely no quirks in my old setup.

Thanks Zmanrocks, it is no longer under warranty unfortunately. I'll cook my brain for something to do, if anyone in the meantime has a suggestion, I'd be happy to try it out.
