Dual channel advantages vs my 3 slot mess

Just wandering how much of a disadvanage I am when it comes to gaming on my pc, with 3 slots filled in a dual channel MOBO, which is a MSI z87M gaming. I currently have HyperX Savage ddr3 with; 2 4gb sticks in the first two slots with 1 8gb stick in the next. A friend recently pointed it out as he is more tech savvy than I am, however couldn't specify ow much of a negating factor this is, so I thought I'd ask you!

There's not a great deal of difference in the real world . Memory performance is slightly better in dual channel . Any gains you would have in dual you would loose by the missing 8gb of memory . Could you not wait and source another matching stick of 8gb then you could run in dual mode with 24 gig

I mean I'm relatively content with how it is, I'd be paying £40-50 for another 8GB and I'd like to know if it's particularly justifiable
