HARDWARE:
M5A99FX PRO R2.0 MOBO
SP550 SSD
GTX FTW 970
GTX G1 GAMING 970
FX 8320E CPU @ 4.5GHZ STABLE
2 X 4GB CRUCIAL BALLISTIC 1600 RAM
ANTEX TRUE POWER CLASSIC 750WATT GOLD RATED PSU

I have a GTX FTW 970 and a GTX G1 Gaming 970. I've ran both cards extensively in a single slot and they both work fine. For some reason when I try to run them in SLI it keeps saying "SLI connector missing." I've DDU wiped and reinstalled drivers. I've switched the cards in their slots. I've tried the bios switch on my FTW. Nothing allows for SLI. Both cards show up fine when in HW monitor, so I'm completely out of ideas at this point. The SLI ribbon that came with my MOBO was just opened today, so I find it hard to believe that it is faulty. Let me know if you guys can help me fix this problem...

I'm not sure what that link is supposed to be. It doesn't even do anything when I type in the serial numbers and click the arrow. I was under the impression that it didn't matter what type of 970 you had as long you have two of them, then SLI should work fine. I'd really like a real answer before I go returning one of these cards or buying a new SLI bridge. Someone who has experience running this setup or knows exactly what I should do, should respond next. Thanks.

If you were to actually read the text then you would have seen this :- "The three styles of GTX 970s will not function in SLI together.", then a bit of google fu would have shown you that they don't SLi with other brands either.

Well the link provided works however I'm not sure it's relevant to exactly your situation even though the suggestion is true. What that means is that while SLI is supposed to work between every card in the same class it is not always guaranteed to work.

The site linked is a compatibility reference page that looks to apply only to EVGA cards and their compatibility with their own but in your case you are dealing with different manufactures but the same rules applies. You simply have two versions of the same type of card that are just dissimilar enough to not be compatible.

That's what I was saying. The G1 Gaming is GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD and not listed on there. But I guess it won't work since two people have said it now... That's what I get for listening to Linus Techtips.

It's relevant because it quite clearly states that those cards don't run in SLi with other cards that are not EXACTLY the same.
