So for the past few weeks I've had a problem with games sometimes crashing. This happens most frequently on rocket league but also crashes on other games like PUBG and F1 2016. Well, I think they are crashing at least. I'll be playing and then everything will freeze and the audio keeps playing but its frozen and stuck on a loop of sorts. When I tab out and check task manager it's no longer taking up a lot of CPU but it's still using memory as if it's running. I then have to end task.

I have checked everything I can think of. I have updated all my drivers, I've done a memtest which came back normal, I did a disk check which was fine too. I've watched my temps and they never go above 60/65 on the CPU and 80 on the GPU. I should mention I only use the basic cooling and don't have any extra CPU or GPU fans. I've even re-installed the games. I've checked event viewer but nothing shows up that stands out relating to my problems. The occasional apphang from Rocket League but never at the times the game actually crashes.

I have an i5 4690k @ 3.5GHz, 16GB of RAM, 4GB 970 and a gigabyte H81M-H motherboard. If anyone can give me some advice or a point in the right direction then I'd be ever so grateful.

80 seems a touch high for the GPU; run MSI Afterburner and check the fan speed when it's getting that high. If the fans aren't going at least 80%, you'll need to set up a custom fan curve.

Rocket League is distributed via Steam, right? Right-click on the game in your list, go to "Local Files," and click "Verify Game Cache." Chances are one of the game's files is corrupted, and verifying should fix that.
