Hello, I was planning on upgrading my girlfriends computer (my old computer) and need some help knowing what parts are compatible since this hardware is a bit before my time. She mainly plays Sims so I'm assuming the CPU is the bottleneck at the moment, and want to know if there is any upgrades for the motherboard that will even make the game run smoother. I was thinking of getting this CPU (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117469&cm_re=lga775_processor-_-19-117-469-_-Product) and a lower end GTX 700 series

If you need any extra info let me know and I'll try figure out the parts (I didn't build it)

MOBO - http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=motherboard&U=en-us0000452
CPU - Pentium Dual Core 2.5 GHz
GPU - GeForce GT 520 2GB
4Gb RAM
Windows 10

Assuming that Pentium Dual Core is a Core 2 (Conroe/Allendale/Wolfdale) based processor, then it is already much faster than the Pentium D 820 you are proposing to replace it with. What's the model number on that Pentium?

Your motherboard appears to support pretty much all LGA775 CPUs. I'd recommend going for something like a used Core 2 Quad Q9000 series - you can pick them up on places like Ebay pretty cheaply.
Ideally you'd want one with a higher clock speed than the Pentium its replacing, so a Q9550/Q9650 or a Xeon X3360/X3370 would be ideal, if you can find one cheaply. Failing that, finding a higher clocked Wolfdale such as an E7400/7500/7600/8300/8400/8600 would give a very slight performance boost, although how much of an...

That is a very old system, although it should still be able to handle things like The Sims (which version? If it's anything other than TS3 or TS4, the existing Pentium will probably be fine, and TS4 would probably run okay on it too).

Hope that helps, if you have any other questions I'd be happy to help!

Thank you! I'm not quite sure how to get the model number on the cpu and am not too eager to open the system (The guy who put it together had the cable management of a gorilla), but I did manage to find the cpu you recommended on the price drop section of PCPP (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/X4TmP6/intel-cpu-bx80569q9550), so thank you! And yes she's running an up-to-date Sims 4 currently, it runs around 20-30 FPS on medium-low settings but can be quite laggy at times.

Download CPU-Z, that will give you the CPU model. Or just press the Windows key+Pause. That opens the system information window that gives a basic overview of the computer. What is listed under "Processor"?
