PC started reaching ridiculous temperatures when booting, shutting down while booting due to heat.

Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VIII Hero
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700k
Cooler: Corsair H100i
Power: EVGA 750
GPU: N970 XTREME Windforce

I have already replaced the motherboard and the CPU with the same models and nothing has worked.

Solution
Overheating CPU is almost always the heat sink not correctly attached. Go to youtube and watch videos of applying the thermal paste, then re-do you thermal paste. I use artic silver. You much clean both the CPU and the HSF. I use rubbing alcohol and coffee filters. Coffee filters leave no lint.

Since you are using active cooling make sure that the pump in the H100i is working. The radiator should be warm. The part attached to the CPU (the cold plate) should be warm but not hot. DON'T touch the cold plate with your finger, if it is really at 90C you will get a nasty burn.

Good Luck.
