CPU overheating absurd amounts

I have a GTX 1060 which runs at 35 degrees C at idle, whilst my I5 4690K overclocked to 4.1GHz runs at around 50, rising to almost 100 under load. I have a Corsair H55, and am planning on reapplying thermal paste to see if this reduces the problem, but for this amount of overheating I think the problem could be something more.

Is there anything else that could have caused this, or will I need to invest in a new cooler (I'm looking at the Deepcool Maelstrom 120) to fix it?

Do you have a custom fan curve profile set up for the cooler? Meaning say does it max out RPM at a certain temp setting? I'd try that first. Something like set it to max out at 60C and see if the fan runs at max RPM.

A 4.1GHz overclock is a very mild one for a 4690K that even the stock Intel cooler can handle under minimal Vcore boost (I was able to get my 4690K up to 4.0GHz at stock Vcore (1.05v if I remember correctly). You've got something else going on. But I would first look at what your cooler is doing in performance mode.

I'd say that's a thermal paste or pump issue if the fan on the h55 is running OK
Where I then pump plugged in , it needs to be running full speed not on a variable speed sys fan header .

What are then full system specs ?

Including case & airflow setup.

The temps with CPU at stock are no better. My VID is apparently 1.234 V, is this a good amount? My VCORE whilst just surfing chrome has a max of 1.248 and a min of 0.756.

Thanks for the reply. Could you tell me how I can check the RPM settings of my cooler fan (and change them if I need)? My VID is 1.234 V if that helps. Whilst surfing chrome the VCORE is between 0.756 and 1.248. Could you also tell me how to check anything else that might let me know if something is wrong with my cooler (pump working etc?), many thanks.
