Q6600 Cooling solution

Hello everyone,i just bought a q6600 like 20 minutes ago,and i have a pentium 4 3.20 ghz stock cooler. Can i use that cooler without thermal paste to see if the q6600 is working? If not can i use it with thermal paste?

the cooler without thermal paste will do nothing

put some thermal paste, see if it works, then turn it off and buy a decent cooler for it
