I added a secondary HDD to my PC a few months ago, everything worked fine

Although when I added the 2nd HDD I was lazy and I put the HDD location inside of my Primary HDD as a folder (shown in images)

This hasn't bothered me until now when I don't have any storage space in my Primary HDD, and when installing software my computer checks the primary for space and decides there is none. When in fact there is over 100GB, it's just in a folder inside of my Primary HDD.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way I could remove my 2nd HDD from inside of my Primary HDD and to move it to sit next my Primary inside of the Computer folder.
I have tried dragging and dropping but it wont work and I can't see any options on Computer Management either.

Preferably I would like to move it without losing any files.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Ok ... looking at that image you just sent ...have you tried clicking the remove button. Maybe after doing that it would allow you to assign it a drive letter.

like I said earlier ... I have never seen an arrangement like this - i have no idea how you set it up this way.

I don't understand how your 2nd HDD can be placed inside a folder on your primary drive. i believe you are mistaken about this. i don't see the image you refer to so i can't check what you mean?

I concur with Robert600, that's not possible. If you added a 2nd physical HDD, even if you put a shortcut to it on your C: drive, the data you put in that folder, resides on your 2nd HDD. If you question where space is being eaten up, download and run treesize on each disk.

I hope this links works.
I want to know how to move my 2nd HDD so it will sit next to my Primary rather than inside.

I have no idea how you did what you did?

My best guess is that you are not using your 2nd HDD at all. Rather you just have a folder on your primary named 'Secondary Drive' - when you put things in this folder - you are adding it to your Primary rather than your 2nd hard drive.

If your boot straight to your bios - does the bios list 1 HD or 2?

The bios shows 2 HDDs, its definitely there.

This is what is shown when i click on properties of the 2nd HDD

Although looking at it now it looks like the computer has registered it as a "File Folder" inside of my Primary HDD, that might be why. But this is the only place where I can find the contents of my 2nd HDD.

Yes, I understand that the data is going into the 2nd HDD, but the computer registers it as a File folder inside of the Primary HDD, I'm not sure if this will help :

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I've spent ages on that, I think I must have just chose to "Mount in the following empty NTFS folder:" option because that worked instantly.

Thanks for the help everyone.
