Here's the info I can provide: I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron 1750 laptop. I don't use it online at all, haven't for about 7-8 months now, but still ran full AVG scan to be sure, came back fine (No one else has access to it either, i.e. no one secretly using it to go online w/o me knowing, etc.) Always shut down properly, etc. About 3 weeks ago I turned it on for the first time THAT week (i.e. hadn't been powered on in a week till that point) and immediately saw that a TON (I'm talking about 5 GB) of music, video and picture files completely gone. Tried several different recovery programs, found some of the files but spotty results at best and couldn't recover the files I found. Turned on the laptop today and WHILE I WAS WATCHING I just started seeing folder after folder disappear... while I watched, and cried (I'm a girl, and I keep it real, I cried). It's not deleting system files (I THINK), but then again I'm totally heartbroken and lost on what to do. I realize it's a long shot and I'll prob get generic responses, but I'm hoping some kind soul out there will have a precious tidbit of info that can help me save my files, i.e., my work! THANK YOU FOR EVEN READING THIS!!!

Do you have any current restorable Data backups? If not, please consider creating and using a usb or dvd boot containing any backup / restore / clone program and immediately making a clone of this problematic HD or making a full image of this problematic HD onto any trusted external HD; this 2nd HD may well come in handy for DIY data recovery attempts.

Thank you for that, and indeed I have done that, unfortunately the backup obviously doesn't include the randomly deleted data... I am so puzzled and upset over this, seeing almost a years worth of work and data just *poof* disappear makes me feel so helpless :(
