Hi,
I'm looking to avoid the insane price that comes with the new laptops that are for sale like the Dell xps 13 and 15. I'm looking for a motherboard CPU combo that works for me. I need the motherboard to be able to support or come with at least a 6th generation i5 or i7 processor. If anyone can offer me any info, please do. Thanks!

Solution
There are no new OEM resellers of laptop CPUs or motherboards (like we get for desktops at Amazon or NewEgg for desktops). Now you may luck out and find an older generation i-series mobile CPU by Intel as I did that is new. I upgraded a four year old Ivy Bridge i3 HP laptop with a new i7 CPU that was sold as new in white box and OEM.
I'll just cut to the chase: there is no such thing as building your own laptop. Unlike desktop PCs, there are no real format standards for laptops (specifically the ATX format specifications of desktops). If you've ever had to completely disassemble laptops from various manufacturers, you'd understand it. Even OEMs like Dell use different component standards among their same product line.

I totally understand that. That's precisely the reason that I came here for help. I just need that motherboard and the CPU to work properly, I'll build everything else around that. Thanks for the speedy reply.

Can you direct me toward where I could find new i7 CPUs. I have an old laptop with a replaceable CPU.

You can only (maybe) change the CPU within the same general line and generation of what the original one was.
